Obituary

WORCESTER
Aurelio Olano, 58, formerly of Athol, Worcester, and Webster, was stricken ill and died Saturday night at Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, MA.

He leaves his devoted partner of 35 years, Robert A. Berte, a brother Rodolfo (Rudy) Olano and his wife Frances of Holden, a sister Araceli (Beba) Adams and her husband Christopher of Worcester, two nephews, David and Michael Olano, two nieces, Jessica and Jennifer Adams, cousins in Cuba and the United States, and many good friends, including Peter Nordman of Chelsea.

He was born in Unión de Reyes, Matanzas, Cuba, son of Rodolfo A. and Araceli Olano. In 1962, along with his family, he emigrated from Cuba and settled in Webster, MA. He was a 1968 graduate of Bartlett High School.

Aurelio had a zest for life and a flair for telling stories and sharing his life’s wisdom with others. He was a man of many talents: a creative hairdresser, accomplished cook, a talented singer and an antique connoisseur. He enjoyed working in fields where he was able to be with people and share these gifts. Most recently he worked as the head chef for the Sisters of the Assumption at their retirement residence in Petersham, MA. There, his inventive cooking style and playful conversation earned him the affection of all the Sisters and staff.

Aurelio had an appreciation for the beauty in life and spent the last 25 years of his life trading in antiques and collectibles alongside his life partner, and best friend, Bob. Aurelio’s infectious laugh and warm personality endeared him to his family and the countless friends he made in his travels throughout this life. He will be greatly missed.
