Charles C. Valentine, Sr.

Charles C. Valentine, Sr. of the Chartley section of Norton died peacefully on Friday June 29, 2007 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of Trudy B. (Grise) Valentine.
Born in Norton, MA on May 2, 1926 he was a son of the late Arthur L. and Ellen N. (Ekberg) Valentine.
After graduating from Norton High School in 1943, he began his business that would later become Valentine Tool & Stamping Co. incorporated in 1954. He was a self taught toolmaker and president of the company. From 1944-1946, he served aboard the USS Lenawee in the U.S. Navy Amphibians Corps in the South Pacific.
He was a charter member of the Norton Lions Club since 1957 and also a past president. In 1959 he volunteered for the Norton Board of Appeals, serving until 2004. He also served for eight years as a director for Baybank United, and since 1981 was an executive board member for the Annawon Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Charlie was on the Board of Directors of the Maine Wilderness Watershed Trust. He was also a member of the Atlantic Salmon Association, the Miramichi Salmon Association, The Royal Hunt Club of Middleboro, The Megantic Fish & Gun Club, and the 100 Club of Massachusetts. He was a member of the Bristol Lodge, A.F. and A.M. and was Trustee and Treasurer of the Unitarian Church in Norton.
Charlie was also an avid fly-fisherman and founded Val-Craft Inc. which manufactures a line of fly reels of his own design. He enjoyed monthly meetings and periodic fishing trips to Maine and Canada with his friends of the “Fin, Feather, and Fur Club”. Other pastimes included hunting, woodworking, furniture restoration, cultivating blueberries and raspberries, reading, and listening to classical music.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Trudy, he leaves two sons and daughter-in-laws: Chuck Valentine and his wife Annette of Mansfield, Larry Valentine and his wife Mary K. of Norton; a daughter, Ellen Valentine of Chartley and seven grandchildren. He was the brother of Arthur “Bud” Valentine of Florida and the late Dorothy Barnett.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday July 3rd at 10:00 A.M. at the Unitarian Church, 1 West Main St. (at the intersection of Route123 and Route 140) Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
