Obituary

David W. Aldrich, 85, of Westminster, MA, formerly of Fitchburg, MA, died June 24, 2007 at Villa Crest Nursing facility in Manchester, NH after a period of declining health.

He was born in Fitchburg, MA, on October 12, 1921, the son of the late Leon and Mabel (Warner) Aldrich. He had lived in the Fitchburg area for most of his life prior to moving to Westminster, MA in 1996. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1939 and served in the 8th Air Force Division stationed in the Philippines and Asian Pacific during WWII.

Prior to retirement, he had been employed as a machinist for many years by the James River Paper Company in Fall River, MA.

He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Fitchburg for many years. He was past Master and member of Aurora Lodge of Masons. He was also a member of Jerusalem Commandry, Thomas Royal Arch Chapter, Harris Council of Gardner and Aleppo Temple of Wilmington, as well as the Fitchburg and Leominster Shrine Club.

Mr. Aldrich was past commander and 60 year member of the American Legion Post 174 of Westminster. He was past patron and member of Lady Emma Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Fitchburg.

In his life: Members of his family include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Grainger) Aldrich of Manchester; one son, Kevin A. Aldrich of Manchester; two grandchildren, Katherine and Elizabeth Aldrich, both of Manchester. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Mayne of Fitchburg.

The funeral service was held Friday June 29, 2007 in the funeral home chapel. Urn burial will be in Woodside Cemetery in Westminster at the convenience of the family.
