Amanda Rebecca McCalvin Ellis, 94, of Tifton, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Bradley Place. Funeral services will be ehdl at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Keith Brown and Rev. Robert Thompson will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Donald Hester, Tommy Berry, Cody Rench, Colby Brown, Chad McCalvin and Chris McCalvin will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Hester and the employees and residents of Bradley Place. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 24, 2007, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Ellis was born on October 19, 1912 in Dooly County and was the daughter of William Henry Matthews and Asenath Delanore Cook Matthews, both deceased. She was also preced in death by her husband, David Thomas McCalvin, Sr., two sons, David McCalvin and Randall McCalvin; two brothers, Luther Matthews and Luke Matthews; and two sisters, Sulla M. Brown and Nancy M. Hall. She was a retired nursing assistant and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and had lived in Tift County since 1943.
Ms. Ellis is survived by three sons, Carlton McCalvin of Dallas, Texas, Thomas McCalvin of Cordele and Nathaniel McCalvin of Tifton; one daughter, Myrtice McCalvin of Albany; 17 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.
