Fall River - Walter J. “Buddy” Arel, 78, of Fall River passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Catholic Memorial Nursing Home.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Walter J. & Anna Mae (Brown) Arel, he had lived in Somerset for most of his life. Mr. Arel ran City Hall Taxi of Fall River for many years and also owned Central Auto Body & Fender in Fall River. Later on in life he worked for Pine Hill Equipment of Westport. He owned the “Buddy A” lobster boat and raced cars at Seekonk Speedway. He was a charter member of the Westport Social Club.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Kathleen A. St. Martin of Westport and Eileen N. Arel-Faxon of Westport; 2 brothers: Thomas Arel and Vincent Arel; 4 sisters: Eleanor Landry, Pauline Langevin, Claire Cunha and Patricia Daniel; 3 grandchildren: David Moraes, Jenna St. Martin and Sarah St. Martin; 2 great grandsons: David Moraes III and Devin Moraes; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late John W. Arel and brother of the late Alma Estrella and Rosemary Nichols.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the Potter Funeral Home from 11 - 12:30 P.M.
Interment will be private.
