Obituary

Leo H. O'Coin, 82, of Main Street, East Brookfield passed away on June 14th after an illness at St. Vincent's Hospital. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Mary C. (Matthews) O'Coin. He is survived by two children, Kathleen Witt of East Brookfield and Mark O'Coin of Southbridge; three grandchildren, Sean O'Coin of Southbridge, IS1 Craig Makynen USN and his wife Thereza of Virginia Beach, VA, and Scott Witt of Spencer. He has one great-grandchild, Olivia-Jane Makynen of Virginia Beach, VA. He is predeceased by two children, Lawrence O'Coin and Debra O'Coin of East Brookfield.

Leo was born in Spencer to Leo E. and Eva (Duval) O'Coin and was one of eleven children. He is survived by LillieBelle Letendre, Lorraine Buckmaster, Wilfred O'Coin, Roland O'Coin all of Spencer and Harold O'Coin of Lantana, Florida. He is predeceased by Lionel O'Coin, Woodrow O'Coin, Clair "Popeye" O'Coin, Jacqueline O'Coin, and Cozette O'Coin all of Spencer. Leo attended St. Mary's Parochial School in Spencer. He was a Machinist Mate 3rd Class in the Navy during World War II stationed on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Before entering the service, he had competed in boxing matches as a bantam weight fighter and has many titles to his name, including New England Champ winning the "Black Belt". He also once boxed while serving in the Navy.

Leo was employed by Wyman-Gordon Company in Worcester for 36 years as a machinist. He also did interior decorating, paper hanging and painting part time in the area for 60 years.

He was a member of the Boulette-Skyten American Legion Post in East Brookfield and held the position of commander, and a member of the Senior Citizens of East Brookfield. Leo enjoyed camping in Lake George, NY since the 50's, watching the Red Sox, and called bingo for the Senior Center in North Brookfield.

The funeral will be held on Monday, June 18 from the J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 a.m in St. John the Baptist Church, No. Brookfield Rd., E. Brookfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, E. Brookfield. Calling hours are Sunday, June 17 from 5 to 8 p.m.
