Susan Francis (Holland) Kirby, 82
WORCESTER-Susan Francis Kirby, 82, of Coes Pond Village in Worcester passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 13th at the UMASS Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born on September 14, 1924 in De Leon, Texas and was an aircraft mechanic during WWII. A graduate of the David Hale Fanning nursing program, Susan worked for over 25 years at Hahnemann Hospital and volunteered at the Fairlawn Rehabilitation Center upon her retirement.
Susan was a world traveler who visited all seven continents during her lifetime. Her last adventure was parasailing and swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean at the age of 81. When she wasn’t traveling she enjoyed baking, diagramless crossword puzzles, spending time with her family and keeping in touch via email.
She is survived by her sister, Viola Miller of Pennsylvania and her children, William Baker of Worcester and his wife Roberta, Clayton Kirby of North Carolina and his wife Vickie, Celeste Couture of Spencer and her husband, Joe and Becky Forsberg of Rochdale and her husband Gary. She also leaves 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Brian, Michelle, Kristen, Lindsay and Mandy and 2 great grandchildren, Tyler and Cody.
Her kind and generous nature was obvious to all who knew and loved her and she will be deeply missed.
At her request, no funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 72 Cambridge Street, Worcester, MA 01603. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is handling arrangements.
