Arthur Donald Allen,76,of Lakeside Drive, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the husband of Mary Frances (Coleman) Allen. They were married for 57 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Clarence G. and Maude (Hoey) Allen.
Mr. Allen was US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a Mechanical Engineer for the Space Shuttle Program in Brigham City, Utah and Vandenburg Air Force Base in California. Before going to Utah in 1978, he was employed at Providence Gas Co. and Electric Boat. He was a member of the Smithfield Jaycee’s and the Smithfield Elks #2359. He played softball and coached boys Babe Ruth League and girls recreational softball in Smithfield. He loved the Boston Red Sox, traveling and dining out.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Donald F. Allen, David W. Allen and Deborah J. Allen Hansen all of Smithfield, two grandchildren Ashley and David Allen, a great grandson, Cameron Coreaveau; a brother Ralph G. Allen of Warwick and a sister, Joan Nance of Missouri. He was the brother of the late George Allen.
Burial with military honors will be held Tuesday at 12noon at RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 169 George Street, Pawtucket, RI 02864.
