WORCESTER-Ourania (Pliatsikas) Economou, 98, of Worcester, died Monday, June 11th in her home. Her husband Constantine “Charlie” S. Economou, who was the long time proprietor of Economy Sweets, Company on Main Street died in 1982. She is survived by her son, Stewart C. Economou and his wife Lauretta of Alexandria VA; 3 daughters, Effie, wife of John Bell of Amherst, Bessie Yotides of Worcester and Helen Murray of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was born in Finiki, Filiates, Epirus, Greece the daughter of Thomas and Hariklia (Tsotsis) Pliatsikas. Mrs. Economou was a long time member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Seniors Group and a former member of its Ladies Philoptochos. She will be remembered as an ever present fixture at Economy Sweets.
The funeral is Wednesday, June 13th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 11:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, June 12th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
