Obituary

SHREWSBURY- Catherine A. (Sullivan) McCarthy, 88, of 26 Fox Hill Road, formerly of 8 Westmont Road and 25 Abington Street, both in Worcester, a longtime Girl Scout volunteer, died Friday, December 7th at home. Her husband, Francis J. McCarthy, died in 1996. She leaves two daughters, Kathleen F. McCarthy of Shrewsbury and Jane F. Smith of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; two brothers John D. Sullivan of Englewood, FLand George E. Sullivan of Auburn; a sister Mary E. Tinsley of Worcester; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A sister Anna G. Charland, and a grandson Sean F. Smith, predeceased her.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of Daniel G. and Nannette (Cronin) Sullivan, and lived many years in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury. Mrs. McCarthy was a longtime Girl Scout leader and a member of St. Mary's Church. She was a former member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, Worcester, and its Mother's Club.

The funeral will be held Monday, December 10th from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday, December 9th, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608, the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02140 or the Nazareth Home for Boys, Mulberry Street, Leicester, MA 01524.
