Catherine “Cay” (Phillips) Eddy, 97, formerly of Little Compton, died May 29, 2007 at The John Clarke Nursing Center in Middletown, Rhode Island. She was the widow of F. Stetson Eddy.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, a daughter of Abbott Phillips and Amy (Habich) Phillips, she lived at Bay Farm in Little Compton for many years before moving to Manasota Key in Englewood, Florida in 1970. She was also a longtime summer resident of Edgecomb, Maine.
Mrs. Eddy was a Red Cross Volunteer and airplane spotter during World War II. She was a past President of the Little Compton Village Improvement Society, a championship golfer and member of the Sakonnet Golf Club, an avid gardener and member of the Little Compton Garden Club and a member of the Colonial Dames of America in Rhode Island. In Englewood, she was a devoted volunteer with the Lemon Bay Conservancy and received great satisfaction from her mentoring of elementary school children.
Mrs. Eddy leaves four (4) sons, Gerald “Mike” W. Harrington, Jr., of Little Compton, Phillips “Flip” Harrington, of West Tisbury, Massachusetts, Brian A. Harrington, of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Stetson “Tack” W. Eddy, of Little Compton. She was predeceased by a sister, Francis Fitzgerald. She is survived by two (2) brothers, William “Bill” Phillips, of Fort Myers, Florida and Abbott “Bud” Phillips of Little Compton, as well as ten (10) grandchildren, and six (6) great grandchildren.
A graveside service, to which family and friends are invited, will be held at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence at 11:30 A.M. on July 31, 2007.
