An Angel Among Us

KEVGHAS—Carole A. (Toupin) Kevghas, 54 years old, wife of the late Costas S. ‘Coe’ Kevghas, a longtime resident of the Highlands section of Lowell, died unexpectedly, in Lowell, June 5th. Friends may call from 12 to 3 PM on Saturday, June 9th at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). A service to follow at 3 PM in the funeral home. Cremation at Linwood Crematory, Haverhill.

In an age of electronic sophistication and fast-paced communications, we’re often hard-pressed to find time to meet our neighbors, forget discuss their lives or problems. Time was never an issue for Carole. She always made time for her family, her friends, and total strangers she would meet in her travels. Carole was a wife for 22 years, a mother for over 30, and a devoted friend for life. Her devotion to people and her faith in them, moved her to share her earthly moments with anyone that would take the time.

Recently, there was a documentary asking the question, “Are there angels among us?”

Google ‘Carole Kevghas’ and only the people she touched will come up. How does one live so long and not be archived in Google, at least somewhere? Her legacy is only documented in the people she touched, the lonely she reached out to, those she led from the edge of despair, and the many who will forever love her. On Tuesday, God called her home.

Don’t look for her on your computers. Search the library archives and you will find little. But look deep in your hearts and remember those who found you when you were hurting, when you were lonely, when you were lost. Can you recall a special person who came into your life, probably for just a short time, but meant so much to you at a time when you needed them so? A person that carried you through when you couldn’t do it yourself. Maybe someone you had probably long forgotten because the struggles were so painful. Along her life path, that person was always Carole.

Carole, a native of Lowell and Chelmsford, was born on June 16, 1952, a daughter of the late Edwin and Agnes M. (Sullivan) Toupin. Surviving her are two children and their spouses: Melissa and Titus Palmer, of Westford; and Stephen and Denise Kevghas, of North Chelmsford; five step-children: Stephanie Doyle, of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia; Chuck Kevghas, of Pierre, SD; Paris Kevghas, of Phoenix, AZ; Craig, and his wife Laura Kevghas, of Westford; and Scott Kevghas, of Phoenix, AZ; eleven grandchildren: Shawna, Christa, Mickey, Amy, Susie, Paris, Jr., Lindsay, Halie, Sarah, Sophia, and Fox; also two great grandchildren: Eric and Zachary; a sister: Pat Sheppard, of Connecticut; a half-brother: Edward Toupin, and a half-sister: Viola Kitts, both residing in Florida, and the countless who she loved and were blessed with her life’s work.

“Are there angels among us?” Yes, but there’s one less.
