Obituary

New Bedford – Howard S. Pires, 56, of New Bedford died May 29, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the fiancé of Cheryl Miranda.

Mr. Pires was born in New Bedford, son of the late John J. and Mary (Lessa) Pires, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He served in the National Guard for 13 years. He was employed by the City of New Bedford as a motor equipment operator until leaving due to illness in January of this year. He was a member of the 1st Calvary Division Association. He enjoyed music and classic cars but most of all loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his fiancée, he is survived by 2 daughters: Leanne Lienard and Shilah Pires both of New Bedford; 2 stepdaughters: Tiffany Miranda and Wen-dee Miranda both of New Bedford; 2 brothers: Lanny Pires and David Pires both of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren: Derek Pires, Alanda Pires and Nyel Miranda-Carrosquillo all of New Bedford; 5 nieces: Roxann Pires, Danielle Pires, Donna Pires, Irene Ramos and Lindsey Domingos; and 6 nephews: Dean Pires, Lance Wedge, Dana Ramos, Derek Pires, Dwayne Pires and Aaron Domingos.

He was brother of the late Cynthia Ramos.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation Friday, June 8, 2007, 6-7 P.M. followed by a memorial service at 7 P.M.
