Stephen J. Jones

SUNCOOK,NH - Stephen J. Jones, age 57, of Suncook NH formerly of Tewksbury MA,
died Monday, June 4. Stephen was born in Somerville, MA, on March 28, 1950, son of the
late Robert R. and Eleanor (Kempton) Jones. He was raised in Wilmington (1952-1960)
and Tewksbury (1960-1970). Stephen excelled at Tewksbury High School on both the cross-
country and hockey teams, and was active in both youth and adult hockey programs. He
enjoyed ice hockey most, and remained an active skater throughout his life.
He was a successful real estate investor. In addition, Stephen also had pursued a career
advocating for the societal inclusion of those physically impaired, perhaps most noteworthy
was Stephen's work with G.S.I.L.F. ( Granite State Independent Living Foundation), in
Concord, NH , where he manifested his lifelong advocacy for the hearing impaired. This
work was largely invisible to the general public, however occasionally his work was visible
the the larger public, ie. his introduction of Senator Tom Harkin to the NH State
Legislature during the 1988 Presidential campaign.
He is survived by, son Phillip Jones and his wife Tara of Doctors Inlet, FL; one sister,
Patricia A. Devlin of Boston; three brothers; Robert J. Jones of Lowell, Donald J Jones of
Shirley, Timothy P. Jones of Hampton, NH; three grandchildren, Anna Jones, David Jones,
and Laura Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stephen's youngest brother, Kenneth B. Jones did not survive him having passed in 2004.
A Memorial service was held Sunday, June 10, in the funeral home.
