Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Viola I. (Turner) Kaplin, 100, formerly of Prospect Street, died, Saturday, June 2, 2007. She was the wife of the late Steve Kaplin.
Born in Somerville, on January 17, 1907, she was the daughter of the late George and Emma (Bragg) Turner. She was a graduate of Somerville High School class of 1924 and has resided in Gloucester for the past eighty years.
After graduating high school, Viola was a professional dancer at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. She also worked at the former Cape Ann Fisheries for several years in the 1940’s and at Sylvania in Ipswich during World War II.
Viola was a volunteer at the Chamber of Commerce, the Fitz Hugh Lane House and for Meals on Wheels. She was also a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church. She loved to line dance, knit and go bowling. We have many, many fond memories of family events and times listening to her stories and words of advice. She has been an inspiration to each and every one of us and will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her. “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn (Lee) and William Burns and Janice (Lee) and Wilfred Prince, seven grandchildren, Cathy Burns, Kevin and his wife, Chris Burns, Barry and his wife, Kristine Burns, Brian and his wife, Denise Burns, Sean and his wife, Sharon Burns, Natalie (Prince) and her husband, Robert Sweet and Jay Prince all of Gloucester, thirteen great-grandchildren, Shannon Burns, Ryan Burns, Meghan (Burns) and her husband, Todd Mahooty, Shayna Burns, Melanie (Burns) and her husband, Jack Lograsso, Brianna Burns, Kailey Burns, Kelly Burns, Justin Burns, Nicole Sweet, Haley Sweet, Vanessa Prince and Victoria Prince and three great-great-grandchildren, Nolan and Connor Mahooty and Jack Lograsso. She was also predeceased by a sister, Doris Earnhart and a brother George Turner.
Funeral services will be held on Friday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 A.M. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 – 11 A.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Please omit flowers. Contributions may be made in her memory to the “Activity Fund” at the Golden Living Center, 272 Washington St. Gloucester. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery, W. Gloucester.
