Sister Jeanne Touchette, P.M., (Sr. Ste. Marie-Norbert) 89, of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, 495 Mammoth Rd., Manchester, NH, died May 29, 2007 at her residence.
She was born in Phenix, RI, October 11, 1917, and was the daughter of Arthur and Marie-Anne (Gareau) Touchette.
She entered the Order of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Canada in 1938. She made her First Profession in 1941 and her Final Profession in 1946.
Sr. Jeanne received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1945. In 1966 she received a Diploma of education from Galway University, Galway, Ireland and in 1973 a Master of Arts degree from Rivier College in Nashua. She retired in 1996 at the Marie Rivier Community in Hudson, NH and in 2005 was transferred to the St. Joseph Residence in Manchester, NH.
Sister Jeanne was an educator who taught in Parochial Elementary Schools in Rhode Island and New Hampshire. She was Principal at St. Edmond’s in Manchester, NH and at Msgr. Vincent School in W. Warwick, RI. She also taught at St. Andre High School in Biddeford, ME, Our Lady of the Mountains in Gorham, NH, and Notre Dame High School in Berlin, NH.
In 1961 she founded and was Headmistress of St. Mary’s High School in Castleblakeney, Ireland. Upon her return to the USA in 1971, she joined the Rivier College staff in Nashua, NH. In 1973 she was appointed Principal at St. Vincent de Paul School in Coventry, RI and in 1989 she was reassigned to Rivier College where she worked part time in the Art Department. She was the editor of the Vocation Newsletter for the Manchester Province.
She leaves a sister, Frances Guthrie of Phenix, RI; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday May 31, 2007 in the Resurrection Chapel, 495 Mammoth Rd., Manchester, NH. Burial followed in Presentation of Mary Cemetery, Hudson, NH
Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, NH was in charge of arrangements.
