Mamie Ruth Nelms, 77, of Albany, Ga., died Thursday, May 24, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Albany.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 28, 2007, at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Wisemon officiating. The interment will be at 6:00 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald, Ga. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, Ga.
Mrs. Nelms was born February 15, 1930, in Barnesville, Ga., daughter of the late Haywood Clark and Allie Lillian Haile Clark. She had worked in the Fort Benning School System as a Secretary and was the former owner of the Ponderosa Motel in Columbus. She was the Past Worthy Matron of Chapter 278 Order Eastern Star. She was the widow of Gibson (Buck) Nelms, and was also predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Francis Clark, Willie Clark, Gertrude Clark, Charlie Clark and Haywood Clark, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Nelms McKenzie (O.T. McKenzie, Jr.) of Albany, Ga.; son, Kenneth (Buddy) Nelms (Tamara Edwards) of Columbus; grandchildren, Jason Clark McKenzie and Shon Christopher McKenzie; nephew, Tommy Joe Clark of Fitzgerald, Ga.; special others, Eddie (Anita) McKenzie, Jeffery McKenzie, Ryan (Tasha) Edwards, Ashton Edwards, Patrick Edwards, Tanya Edwards,Taylor Deal, and several nieces and nephews.
