Obituary

SOUTH YARMOUTH-Harold A. Johnson, 69, of 48 Village Brook Road, formerly of 5 Henderson Avenue, Worcester died Tuesday, November 19th in Cape Cod Hospital. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Helen E. (McGinn) Johnson; 2 sons, Harold A. Johnson, Jr. of Worcester and William P. Johnson of Auburn; 5 daughters, Patricia A. Johnson-Giles of Ithaca, NY, Mary Ellen Chute of West Hartford, CT, Helen “Beth” Thulin of Millbury, Lynn Kirby of N. Oxford and Ann Leary of Worcester; a brother, George W. Johnson of South Yarmouth; 2 sisters, Alyce Johnson and Shirley Palmgren both of Worcester; 18 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Paul Johnson and 2 sisters, Natalie Woodbry and Barbara Johnson predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester the son of Gustave and Catherine (Cassidy) Johnson and lived in Worcester most of his life before moving to South Yarmouth 8 years ago. He graduated from South high School and attended Worcester Junior College. Mr. Johnson was employed as a bore-matic operator for 37 years at Heald Machine Company before retiring. He was a member of St. Pius X in South Yarmouth, the Bass River Country Club and the Retired Men’s Club of South Yarmouth. He was a former member of Our Lady of the Angels Church in Worcester. He was an avid golfer.

The funeral will be Saturday, November 23rd from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Calling hours will be Friday, November 22nd from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
