Obituary

Sherman R. Thorne, 60, of Hollis, ME died on February 14, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Berlin, NH on August 19, 1946 the son of John and Lucy Thorne. He grew up in Portland, ME and attended Deering High School and the University of Maine at Machias. He was an avid athlete and enjoyed playing basketball along with many other sports. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers No. 517. He worked as a welder and went onto work for environmental companies such as Seacoast Ocean Services, Jet Line Services, Pollution Control and Clean Harbors. He enjoyed writing, art, photography, being with animals, reading, playing golf, traveling to such places as Jamaica, and being with family and friends. He lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed.

Members of the family include his daughter and best friends Sherma Lorne of Westbrook, ME; a son Mark Young and his wife Denise of Massachusetts; sisters Sandra Ingraham of Westbrook, ME, Sheila Berry of Westbrook, ME and Sharon Parker of Windham, ME; his grandchildren Madison, Tyler and Sarah; his best friend Paul LaPierre of Holden; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Lucy Thorne, a brother Stanley Thorne and his stepfather Charlie Olsson.

Graveside committal services will be held on Saturday June 2, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Family Cemetery in Gorham, NH. Deacon Merle Albert will officiate. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
