Everett James Owens, 88, of Snead, Alabama, formerly of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Oneonta, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, May 22 in the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Allen Payne and Rev. Avery Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Owens was born August 29, 1918 in Ben Hill County to the late Thomas Hardy, Sr. and Lucy Estell Mitchell Owens. He was a member of the Morton’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Alabama. He was an automotive parts salesman having worked for EIS Automotive Corporation and the A.S. Hatchery Co. in Macon. He was a member of the Walnut Grove Lions Cub and a member and past master of the Walnut Grove Masonic Lodge in Alabama.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife: Carolyn Owens of Snead, AL; daughter and son-in-law: Charlene and Dr. George Kerrick of Murfreesboro, TN; granddaughter: Michelle and Connan Jones of McMinnville, TN; two grandsons: David Brown and Andrew Brown, both of Murfreesboro, TN; seven great-grandchildren; two step-children and their spouses: Pat and Jill Ratliff of Oneonta, AL and Ritchi and Skip Rollins of Birmingham, AL; four step-grandchildren; two brothers: Hardy Owens, Jr. of Fitzgerald, GA and W.B. Owens of Portsmouth, VA; and two sisters: Evelyn Jane Coombs of Daytona Beach, FL and Tommie Sherrer of Macon, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife: Mildred Owens and two sisters: Dorothy Garrett and Elizabeth Herring.
