Obituary

Guilherme M. Avelar, 93, died Friday, May 18, at home in Stoughton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 68 years of Ana (Corvelho) Avelar. Born in Cedros, Flores, Azores, Portugal he was educated in Flores and came to the United States in 1975, settling in Stoughton. Mr. Avelar worked as a dishwasher at Morse Shoe in Canton for 8 years, retiring in 1983. Mr. Avelar was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and a member of Club Luis de Camoes in Stoughton. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards at Club Luis de Camoes.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Avelar is survived by his children, Maria Baeta and her husband Jose and Joao Avelar and his wife Leotilda all of Stoughton. He was the brother of Jose Coelho Avelar of CA, Norberto Avelar of Flores, Azores, Portugal, Roque Avelar of Taunton, Jose Vicente Avelar of Terceira, Azores, Portugal and Vasco Avelar of Stoughton. He is preceded in death by his son Jose Avelar, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Mr. Avelar is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins and his daughter in law Beatriz Avelar.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, May 21 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 3-6 PM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
