Obituary

HUDSON, NH: George L. Ahearn, age 83, a resident of Hudson for 47 years, died Thursday, May 10, 2007 at home, following a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of Hope M. (Roberts) (DeBow) Ahearn, with whom he celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary on October 26, 2006 and the late Vivian M. (Scott) Ahearn, who died in 1982.
Born in Lowell on April 23, 1924, he was the son of the late George J. and Mary (Hendricks) Ahearn.
Mr. Ahearn was raised in Lowell and attended Lowell schools.
In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
Prior to his honorable discharge in 1946, Mr. Ahearn served with the HQ & HQS Detachment (Mars Task Force), 40th Military Police and previously served in the China Burma India Theater as a horseshoer.
Mr. Ahearn was awarded several decorations and citations including the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star Medal.
Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was employed as a plastics extruder by the Wire & Cable Division of the General Electric Company in Lowell, where he worked for 34 years. In addition, he worked as a local Blacksmith and Ferrier serving many greater Lowell and Southern New Hampshire horse owners.
Mr. Ahearn was a member of the Merrill’s Marauders Association, the Hudson, NH V.F.W. Post # 5791 and a life member of the Hudson, NH American Legion.
According to his family, he enjoyed tinkering with motors, solving crossword puzzles, woodworking, gardening, swimming, hunting and riding his Indian motorcycle to work.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Greg M. Ahearn and his wife Claire of Nashua, NH, George S. Ahearn and his wife Helen of Hudson, NH, Brian E. Ahearn and his wife Michelle of Merrimack, NH and Jason DeBow and his wife Mary Grace of Nashua, NH; one daughter, Nona Kennedy and her husband Ted of Pueblo West, Colorado; one sister, Mary Ahearn of Pelham, NH; twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ahearn was the brother of the late Leona Russell, Lillian Desilets, Evelyn Winters, Joseph, John and Raymond Ahearn.
Services:
Calling hours Monday, May 14th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral service Tuesday, May 15th, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Hudson V.F.W., 15 Bockes Rd., Hudson, NH 03051 are suggested.
