Obituary

Ashland—Souren “Jeff” Jaffarian, 74, of Ashland died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Metro West Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Souren K. Jaffarian and Victoria (Hoogasian) Jaffarian. He was born and raised in Worcester prior to moving to Ashland 38 years ago. Mr. Jaffarian attended schools in Worcester: Classical High School, Worcester Junior College, and graduated with honors from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at WPI, he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was also a charter member of the Alden Society of WPI.

He worked for 15 years at the Johnson Steel and Wire Company as Assistant Engineering Manager and later at the H. K. Porter Company in Holyoke, MA as Manager of Engineering. He moved to Ashland in 1969 to work as Division Engineering Manager at the Dennison Manufacturing Company. He retired in 1987.

He was a life-long member of the Armenian Holy Trinity Apostolic Church of Worcester. He was a member of several sports clubs including the YMCA in Worcester and for the past 36 years the Boston Sports Club in Framingham. He was a member of the Massachusetts Society of Professional Engineers and was state certified. He was a third degree Mason since 1964. He was also an avid golfer.

He was active in his early years with the Worcester YMCA camping program in Sutton, MA and worked as assistant director of the camp in 1953.

Survived by two brothers; Haig Jaffarian and his wife Alice of Worcester and Franklin Jaffarian and his wife Lee of Northborough; two nephews, Martin Jaffarian of Worcester and Thomas Jaffarian of Northborough; a niece Lisa Haggerty, wife of Christopher Haggerty of Shrewsbury; and a grandniece Julie Haggerty.

He maintained a relationship for over 30 years with a special friend, Beverly A. Paulino of Ashland who died in 2003. Also survived by her grandchildren Armani P. Arroyo and Nevante P. Arroyo of Blackstone, MA.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, calling hour at 9:30 a.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in Armenian Holy Trinity Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street, Worcester.
