WORCESTER-Kathleen A. (Mahoney) O’Brien, 90, of 7 Oberlin Street, died Thursday, May 10 in Saint Vincent Hospital. Her husband Ralph O’Brien predeceased her. She leaves her grandson, Thymaya O’Brien Payne of Los Angeles, cousins, including Betty and Mary Clifford of Worcester, a stepdaughter, Maureen Fitzgerald of Hurricane, W. Virginia. A daughter, Kathleen Frazer predeceased her in 1997. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John K. and Elizabeth M. (Scannell) Mahoney, graduated from Becker College and Worcester State College where she later earned her Masters Degree in education.
Mrs. O’Brien was once a social worker for the City of Worcester and then taught visually impaired students in the Worcester Public School system for many years. She was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Church and the Main South Development Committee Board. She was currently enrolled in classes at Worcester State College and the Worcester Art Museum. She loved to travel and one of her fondest memories was riding an elephant in Morocco.
The funeral will be Monday, May 14 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., with a Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home from 9:00-10:00 AM the morning of the funeral.
