...P.E.R. Tewks-Wilm Elks Lodge 2070, WWII Veteran; age 78
TEWKSBURY - John L. McPhee, age 78, an active member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks
Lodge, died Monday, May 7, at his Tewksbury home following a lengthy illness. He was the
husband of Lorraine D. (McGregor) McPhee, who died in January 23, 2005.
He was born in Boston, May 5, 1929, a son of the late John and Marcella (Curtis) McPhee, and
was raised in East Boston. He had lived in Tewksbury since 1957.
During WW2, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Leyte, in the
Mediterranean.
He worked as a Sheet Metal Mechanic for High Voltage Engineering, and later at Avco in
Wilmington.
In 1973, he rose to the rank of Exalted Ruler in the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks. In his later
years, he was active in the Tewksbury seniors community and a member of the Tewksbury
Golden Age Club.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John L. McPhee Jr and his wife Cathy (Sherlock) of
Raymond, NH; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary E. McPhee of Billerica, and Dotty
Aronofsky and her husband Paul of Hudson, NH; four grandchildren, Richard John McPhee of
Raymond, NH, Paul Aronofsky Jr. of Pittsburg, PA, Michael Aronofsky of Hudson, NH, and
Jennifer Sullivan of Lowell; two great grandchildren, Alex and Kolby; a brother, Joseph McPhee of Peabody; a sister, Mary Cutlip of East Boston; and many nieces, nephews
and dear friends.
He was also grandfather of the late Chucky Sullivan.


His Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, May 11, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury.
Interment with Navy Honors was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Tewks-Wilm Elks Scholarship Fund, 777 South St., Tewksbury, MA
