Obituary

WORCESTER___Edward F. Yurkiewicz, 85, of 149 Providence Street and Christopher House, 10 Mary Scano Drive, died Thursday May 3 in Christopher House.

He leaves a brother, Mitchell Yurkiewicz and his wife Edna of Sutton; nieces and nephews including, Linda Romano, Paula Nicholson, Steven Varnum, Kenneth Varnum, Heidi Rowell, Nancy Small, Mary Jenewin – Caplin, Elizabeth Jenewin, a Telegram & Gazette photographer and Catherine Forrester and cousins and grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters, Walter and Stella Yurkiewicz, Benjamin Jenewin, Helen Nelson, Viola Yurkiewicz and Wanda Varnum. He was born in Worcester, a son of Adolph and Josephine (Migdal) Yurkiewicz and lived here all his life.

Mr. Yurkiewicz began his career with the U.S. Postal Service working for the Railway Mail Service and later became a postal clerk. He worked for 31 years before retiring in 1983. He was a U.S. Army – Air Force veteran and served as a Corporal with the Air Transport Command in the Asiatic Pacific theater. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon with one Bronze Star. He participated in the Japan air offensive.

Edward attended Holy Cross College and graduated from Clark University. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. He was a quiet man dedicated to his family.

The funeral will be held on Monday May 7 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday May 6 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester, Ma., 01610.
