Funeral Service in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 10am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 pm. Eldon J. “Eldy” Johnson, 80 years died Tuesday evening at the Brockton Hospital after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was born in Brockton, a son of the late John and Caroline (Perkins) Johnson. He remained a life long resident of the city. During WW II he left Brockton High School in his junior year to enlist in the US Army. He served as a medic in Japan. In 1989 he retired from Bay State Gas after 40 years of service. In his retirement he worked part time at Halifax Country Club. He was a 50 year member of the Vega Club and a member of the Utilities Workers Union of America AFL-C10 Local 273. He enjoyed golf and working around his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Claire M. (Anderson) Johnson, a daughter, Leslie Nardi and her husband Michael of Brockton, his two grandsons, Michael and James Nardi, a sister, Mabel Gustafson of Maine and many nieces and nephews
He was the father of the late Lynne Johnson and brother of late John and Herbert Johnson and Caroline Burrell.
