Obituary

Donald M. McDowell, 83, of Manchester, died December 6, 2001, surrounded by his family, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Manchester, October 11, 1918, he was the son of Joseph C. and Marion (McCleod) McDowell. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.

He was a graduate of Central High School, and Mount Ida College.

He served as a medic in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Iran.

Mr. McDowell worked for Jewell Electronics for many years.

Family members include his wife of 54 years, Carol (Johnson) McDowell of Manchester; two daughters, Carol Anne (Downs) Kenneson of Plymouth, and Brenda S. (McDowell) Leahy of Monroe; a son, James S. McDowell of Allenstown; seven grandchildren, Sheryl, Jeff, Christian, Sean, Ian, Alicia, Jaskiel; a great granddaughter, Taylor; two brothers, Capt. Joseph M. M. McDowell, USN (ret), and RADM Charles E. McDowell JAGC, USN (ret), both of Alexandria, VA; numerous nieces and nephews.

There were no calling hours.

Services were private with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
