Grandfather of Courtney Rego, Amy Miller, Brian Duhamel, Kevin Herrett, Chris Rego, Michael Kirby, Sara Hopkins, Kelly Gormley, Emily Nivison and Ted Nivison. Great grandfather of Madison, Mason and MacKenzie Miller.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 9am. Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, W. Bridgewater at 10am. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery at 12:30pm. Visiting Hours Tuesday 5-8pm. Obituary Information
Raymond C. “Red” Gormley died unexpectedly Saturday morning at Heights Crossing. Born and raised in Brockton, son of the late Clifford and Catherine (Corcoran) Gormley, he remained a lifelong resident. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1944 where he was an outstanding baseball player, eventually being drafted by major league clubs for the minor league affiliates such as the Roanoke Red Sox, Fayetteville Cubs and Brooklyn Dodgers. He served in the US Army during WWII in Germany and returned home to Brockton. He had been employed by the Brockton Post Office for 38 years retiring in 1984. Following his retirement he and his wife would winter in Matlacha FL. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid sports fan and reader, loved to travel and was a loyal and dedicated family man.
He is survived by his children Kathleen A. Rego of Bridgewater, James E. Gormley of Peabody, Mary Jane Hopkins of N. Conway, NH, Suzanne M. Kirby of Halifax, Christopher D. Gormley of Raynham and Lisa Nivison of Acton, 10 grandchildren, Courtney Rego, Amy Miller, Brian Duhamel, Kevin Herrett, Chris Rego, Michael Kirby, Sara Hopkins, Kelly Gormley, Emily Nivison and Ted Nivison, 3 great grandchildren Madison, Mason and MacKenzie Miller and many nieces and nephews. He was the husband of the late Elinor G. (Tucker) Gormley and brother of the late Mary Durso and Charlotte Balukonis.
