DRACUT - Demitrea Nickologanis, a resident of Marlboro and former longtime Dracut resident, died Thursday April 26, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
She was born in Lowell and was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Athena (Chiangis) Nickologanis. She received her education in the Lowell schools and was a graduate of the Vocational School of Lowell where she excelled in sewing and dressmaking.
After graduation, she was employed by the Zollinger Sisters who had a shop in Chelmsford and were known for creating gowns and dresses, and restyling fur coats.
When World War II began, and for some time, Demitrea was employed by the Parachute Co. in Lowell making parachutes. After the war, she went back to dressmaking.
She then resided with her parents and took care of them in their senior years. After her father had died, Demitrea's bad health made it impossible for her to live alone, and she moved into a nursing home.
She was a member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell.
In her free time she enjoyed embroidery and dressmaking.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Helen, and her husband, Dr. Melecio H. Flores, of Concord, NH. She was the beloved aunt to four nieces: Rebecca M. and her husband, Dr. Edgardo J. Mantilla, of Malden, MA; Paula Nickologanis of Hull, MA; Mary Ellen and Linda Nickologanis of Boston, MA; and four nephews: Stephen Nickologanis and his wife, Lisa of Kensington, NH; William F. Nickologanis of Carver, MA; Robert Nickologanis of Boston, MA and Paul Nickologanis of Nashua, NH.
She was also the sister of the late Peter, Chrisostomos, John, and Vasillios Nickologanis.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Sunday from 1 until 4 PM. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday at 10 AM followed by her Funeral Service at 11 AM at the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Lewis St., Lowell., MA 01852. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in her name to the church.
