DANIELSON/WEBSTER – Rita B. (Cyr) Kania, 84, of 6 Taos Drive, Danielson, CT, formerly of Webster, MA, died Sunday, April 22, in Backus Hospital, Norwich, after being stricken ill.
She leaves 5 children, Gloria Kania Fabian and her husband Albert E. Fabian of Jacksonville, FL, Joseph F. Kania, Jr., of Heidelburg, Germany, Maryann Lalumiere and her husband Richard of Clinton, CT, Pamela A. Dion and her husband David of Webster, MA and James P. Kania, with whom she lived; her former husband, Joseph F. Kania, Sr., and her former daughter-in-law Eileen Kania, both of Brooklyn, CT; 2 sisters, Margaret Marrier of Webster, MA and Charlotte Galvin of Thompson, CT; 7 grandchildren, Renee and Aaron Kania, Mark and Katherine Lalumiere, Sarah Litevitch, and Jeffrey and Jonathan Dion; 6 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
She was born on May 23, 1922, in Webster, MA, one of the eleven children of Henry and Stasia (Taberski) Cyr. She moved to Danielson in 1950.
Mrs. Kania was a supervisor at Westview Manor in Attawaugan before retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. Anne’s Church in Ballouville. She was a member and volunteer at both the Brooklyn Senior Center and the Plainfield Senior Center. An accomplished seamstress, she made quilts and various items for charitable organizations. She even created wedding dresses for members of her family. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
The funeral will be held Thursday, April 26, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster, MA, with a Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Anne’s Church, 227 Ballouville Road, Ballouville, CT. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Calling hours are from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 25, in the funeral home.
