NORTH ANDOVER—Barbara Buckland Tighe, a resident of North Andover, formerly of Lowell, died Wednesday morning at the Holy Family Hospital, in Methuen, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas J.G. Tighe, MD.
She was born in Lowell, the daughter of the late Elmer E. and Katherine (Harkins) Buckland. She was a graduate of Rogers Hall.
An avid horsewoman, Mrs. Tighe owned and operated the Whipporwill Farm, in North Andover, for forty years. She trained and rode many champion horses during her successful career.
Surviving her are a son and daughter-in-law: Thomas J.G. Tighe and Carolyn Payne Tighe, of Baltimore, MD; a daughter and son-in-law: Johanna Tighe O’Hearn and her husband Peter T. O’Hearn, of Lowell; four grandsons: Shaun T. O’Hearn, James M. O’Hearn, Patrick J. O’Hearn, Thomas C. O’Hearn, all of Lowell; five granddaughters: Molika M. O’Hearn, and Linna K. O’Hearn, of Lowell; Jessica B. Tighe, of San Francisco, CA; Chelsea, B. Tighe and Alexandra P. Tighe, both of Baltimore.
At her request, funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Respects may be paid to the family at Whipporwill Farm, 7 Lacy Street, North Andover, from 2 until 4 PM Saturday November 9, 2002.
