Obituary

Gladys Tickner, of Newton formerly of Brighton, a retired bookkeeper for Gorens and Almy’s Dept Stores, died April 16, 2007 at the Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was 79.
Born in Boston she graduated from Cambridge High & Latin. She worked for more than 40 years at Gorens and Almy’s. She was a longtime active member of the Newton Presbyterian Church where she served on the flower committee and was the treasurer of the Ladies Aid for many years. A resident of Brighton for 24 years she had lived in Newton since 2002.
She is survived by her husband Ernest H. Tickner, her son Rev. David Tickner and his wife Christine of So. Pasadena CA, her sister Betty Gillis of Newington CT her sister in law and brother in law Norma MacDonald of Nova Scotia and Forbes Tickner of Rockland, 3 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Patricia Tickner and sister of the late Ernest Tickner.
A funeral service will be held on Fri April 20 at 11:30 AM in the Newton Presbyterian Church 75 Vernon St. Newton Corner. Interment will follow at The Gardens at Gethsemane in West Roxbury. Visiting hours will be in the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Thurs. from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jimmy Fund 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
