Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Rose Church, 600 Broadway, Chelsea on Saturday morning, April 21st at 9 o'clock. Visiting Hours will be held in St. Rose Church on Friday evening from 6-9 PM. Committal Services will be private.
Born in Salama Baja Verapaz, Guatemala, Jose at 88 years, passed away at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett a little over a year after being diagnosed with cancer. A member of the Chelsea community for over 21 years, Jose was an actor in his native country of Guatemala. Appearing in 1962 in the movie La Vida Del Hermano Pedro playing the role of Alferes Real, in 1970 in Dios Existe playing the role of the priest and in 1972 playing King Cuchumani in Dios Existe La Princesa Iskick. On September 3 2004, the Centro Cultural University-Cinematica University awarded Jose Domingo Vasquez with the Guatemalan Cinematic Industry Award for his efforts in the development Guatemalan movie industry. In his spare time, he was also known as a prolific poet. One of his works, Bosquejo De Un So Nador Echo Realidad was published in the Chelsea Record in 1993.
