SALEM - Frank T. Zdanowicz, age 95, of Salem, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at the Salem Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Stefan & Antonina (Marciszak) Zdanowicz.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for many years as a master carpenter and was a member of the carpenters union. He was also self employed as a toy maker, making various toys out of wood.
A lifelong resident of Salem, he was a graduate of Salem High School in the class of 1930. Mr Zdanowicz was a lifelong and active parishioner of the St. John The Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and was a members of the St. John The Baptist Boosters Club.
His two loves were the sea and working with wood. Mr. Zdanowicz was a Friend of the sailing vessel Friendship and constructed all of the pintails and belaying pins for the ship. He was a former Harbor master for the City of Salem and a member of the Palmer Cover Yacht Club. He enjoyed sailing around the local harbors in his wooden sailboat, the “Antonina, ” and as a world traveler he enjoyed cruising.
He is survived by three sisters, Jane Melody and Henrietta Batchelder of Peabody, Victoria Zdanowicz of Salem, a sister-in-law, Gertrude Zdanowicz of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Amelia Zdanowicz, Helen Duda, John Zdanowicz, Joseph Zdanowicz and Edmund Zdanowicz.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Monday, 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
