Obituary

Mrs. Mary E. (Silvi) Berghelli, 87, of 59 Milliken Ave., Franklin, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at Caritas Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, following a long illness. She was the wife of Anthony Berghelli, who died in 1995.

Born in Walpole, June 2, 1919 a daughter of the late John and Gilda (Averi) Silvi, she was raised and educated in Walpole, and lived in Franklin for most of her life.

Mrs. Berghelli was a retired sales clerk who worked in the Dean Jr. College book store. Prior to her work there, she was a clerk at the former King’s Department Store in Franklin, and for the former Rico’s Market.

She was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin and was a life member and past president of St. Mary’s Church Catholic Women’s Club. During her presidency the club’s annual scholarship was inaugurated. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader who was instrumental in bringing the Marian Medal to Girl Scouting at St. Mary’s Church. She was devoted to her family, and also enjoyed travel.

She is survived by a son: James A. Berghelli and his wife Mary of Bridgewater, a daughter Diane M. Berghelli of Franklin, 2 grandchildren Nicole and Anthony Berghelli.

She was also the sister of the late James and Domenic Silvi, Lena Simmonelli and Rosa Ciannavei.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Saturday at 8:15 AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street (www.franklinfuneral.com), with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin at 9:00 AM.

Interment will follow in the family lot in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours are Friday from 4 – 8 PM.
