Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Anthony “Tony” Julian, 92, retired home builder, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 7, 2007 in the Coral Bay Nursing Home in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was the husband of the late Olive S. (Davis) Julian who died in April of 1982.
Born in Gloucester on January 17, 1915 he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Shouder) Julian. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1933. He started building homes before he went to work at the Boston Naval Yard during World War II.
After the war he started his contracting business, Julian Bros. and later started Julian Homes and built over 350 homes on Cape Ann and in Florida. His dream was to own a marina on his property on Essex Avenue, so he developed and operated the Cape Ann Marina for many years before he sold it in the early 1970’s. He then went into the used car business, Julian Used Cars on Essex Avenue and worked until he was ninety-one years old. He was also awarded many contracts with the State and City of Gloucester. He was a member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks #892.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane and Sam Novello of Gloucester and Judith Sawyer of West Palm Beach, FL, a son, Michael Julian of Gloucester, six grandchildren, Sam, Jr. and his wife, Darlene Frontiero, Marc Frontiero and Adam Novello all of Gloucester, Keith Sawyer, Eric Sawyer and his special granddaughter, Melissa Sawyer all of West Palm Beach, FL, three step-grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Amy Novello of Brookline, Peter and his wife, Marissa Novello of Westport, CT and Eve and her husband, Todd Adams of Portage, IN, eight great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson, two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Edward and Dorothy Julian of Gloucester, Elliott and Phyllis Julian of Essex and Florence Davis of Gloucester, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Madeline O’Keefe of Georgetown and Teresa and Glenn Lucas of Gloucester and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother, Joseph Julian, a sister, Elizabeth Barkhurst and a brother-in-law, Guy Davis.
A memorial funeral service will be held on Friday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4 - 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the charity of one’s choice.
