Obituary

DRACUT-Charles Athenais, 79, a resident of Dracut, died Sunday, April 8th, after a brief illness surrounded by his beloved son and family at his bedside. He was the beloved husband of Dulla "Dolly" (Bikos) Athenais who predeceased him in 1970.

Mr. Athenais was born in Lowell, on July 3, 1927, the son of the late Emanuel S. and the late Georgia (Psoinos) Athenais.

He was a World War II United States Army National Guard veteran where he served for 20 years.

Mr. Athenais was employed by the City of Lowell Public School Department where he worked as a cook manager at the Bartlett School and the Daley School for 27 years until retiring in 1990. After his retirement he worked in facilities services at various Lowell schools.

He was a member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church and also a member of various organizations.

Mr. Athenais enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed vacationing with his son.

He is survived by his son, Emanuel S. Athenais of Dracut, three sisters, Antonia Blatus and her husband Nicholas of Dracut, Joan Papanicholas of Peabody and Effie Ramsey of Selmar, TN; two sister-in-laws, Effie Barrows of Methuen and Lillian Papadopoulos of Nashua; his godson, Daniel Papadopoulos of Mooresville, NC; many nephew, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces.

Mr. Athenais was also the father of the late Sandra Athenais of Dracut, the brother of the late Stanley Athenais of Dracut, the late Daniel Athenais of Oakland, CA, and the late Katherine Papadopoulos of Modesto, CA.

Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT on Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 PM. His funeral will be held on Thursday, from the funeral home at 10:00 AM followed by his funeral service at 11:00 AM in Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Building Fund, 1160 Mammouth Road, Dracut, MA 01826.
