Othal Cleveland Evans, 82, of Tifton died on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at his residence. Funeral services will be hald at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Wayne Roe and Rev. John Hughes will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Joe Tinsley, Darrell Osborne, Ralph Rigdon, Wendel Pearson, Wilbur Webb and Lamar Cameron will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 9, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Evans was born on March 7, 1925 in Turner County and was the son of Marvin Evans and Ruby Little Evans, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil Evans, Floyd Evans and Charles Evans. He was a war veteran and served on Iwo Jima during World War II. He was employed with the United States Postal Service in Tifton for 35 years before retiring. He also worked as a court baliff for several years after retiring from the post office.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife JoAnn Butler Evans of Tifton; three daughters and two son-in-laws, Barbara Jo Morris, Laurie and Rex Norman, and Carla and Andy Borem; two sisters, Hazel Smith of Byron and Jewell Hasty of Macon; three brothers, Jack Evans of tifton, Russell Evans of Indian Head Park, Illinois and Osal Evans of Sylvania. He was Papa to Rebecca Norman and Evan, Jacob and Timothy Borem.
Mr. Evans was a war veteran as he served on Iwo Jima during World War II. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Tifton for thirty five years before retiring. He also worked as court balif after retirement for several years.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cementery. Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
