Obituary

ROCKPORT: Donald R. Kimmence, Sr., 78, formerly of Gloucester, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 22, 2007 in the Beverly Hospital. He was the husband of the late Geraldine C. “Mamie” (Consiglio) Kimmence, who died this past January.
Born in Gloucester on November 29, 1928, he was the son of the late George H. and Pearl A. (Jameson) Kimmence Boucher. He was a graduate of the Gloucester High School. He had resided in Gloucester most of his life before moving to Rockport five years ago.
A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged in January of 1948.
Don was a self-employed general contractor for many years in the North Shore area and in retirement he worked as the building superintendent at the Cable Gardens in Ipswich. He was also once employed at the former Lipman Marine. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed his many house projects and trips to New Hampshire.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald R., Jr. and Dawn Kimmence of Amesbury, a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and John Greene of Cape Coral, FL, three stepchildren, Denise, wife of Joseph DellaGrotte and Rosalie Cox all of Danvers and Stephen Cox of Gloucester, six grandchildren, Matthew and his wife, Victoria Greene, of Stratham, NH, Meghan and her husband, Tim Nadeau of Hampton, NH, Alicia and her husband, Christopher DeWolfe, Crystal and Selia Cox all of Gloucester and Alexander DellaGrotte of Danvers, two great-grandchildren, Talia and Tyler DeWolfe both of Gloucester, a brother and sister-in-law, George and Alice Kimmence of Magnolia, his former spouse, Helen (Murray) Kimmence of Gloucester and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his stepfather, Joseph T. “Clete” Boucher and a stepson, Frank Cox.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, March 31st in the First Baptist Church, Gloucester Ave., Gloucester at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
