Obituary

Medford, Rosario J. Tosiello, age 61 of Medford, died Saturday in the Chilton House Cambridge, MA. Mr. Tosiello was born in Boston the son of the late Giuseppi and the late Angelina (Lomberto) Tosiello. Mr. Tosiello died following a brief illness. He was a Medford resident for twenty-six years formerly of East Boston. Mr. Tosiello chose Boston University to pursue his BA, MA and Ph.D., which he earned in 1971. Trained as an economic historian. He was a Professor of American History at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill for the past twenty-nine years. He discovered a passion for examining the Italian American experience in the 20th Century. He published essays on the Sacco Vanzetti case, and was at work on a biography of Max Ascoli when he died. Mr. Tosiello served in a variety of faculty and administrative roles, from faculty moderator to department chair and Dean of Academic Policies and Procedures. As College Marshall, his familiar presence was a welcome sight at all official College ceremonies. Mr. Tosiello possessed a keen appreciation for the sense in which ceremonies could mark important moments in a person’s life.Mr. Tosiello was also a lecturer at Northeastern University for thirty-one years. He was a talented and teriffic historian and researcher. His research and studying has allowed him to interview and meet with many influencial and famous personalities, most recently, Henry Kissinger. Mr. Tosiello was honored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and Harvard University with Fellowships, as well as by Pine Manor College, which awarded him numerous honors, including a Wean Professorship in 2001. Mr. Tosiello’s hobbies were gardening, creating stained glass and building ships inside of bottles. His biggest passion was being a loving husband and father. Mr. Tosiello is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Regal Tosiello and their three children, Matthew, Andrew and Kassie. He is also survived by his cousins Anthony and Frances Tosiello, Joseph and Maureen Rubano of Tom’s River, NJ. Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Wednesday at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Polycarp Church 100 Temple St. Somerville, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rosario’s memory to the Chilton House, 65 Chilton St. Cambridge, MA 02138
