Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Daniel J. Kelly, age 85, a resident of Tewksbury for 14 years, formerly of Reading, MA and Chicago, IL died March 17, 2007 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Valerie A. (Layman) Kelly with whom he celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on October 9th.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on August 28, 1921, he was the son of the late Maurice M. and Ellen J. (Clifford) Kelly.
Mr. Kelly was raised in Chicago, graduating from Austin High School in 1938.
Following the war years he attended DePaul University.
Mr. Kelly served during World War II in the Navy Seabees, most notably at Iwo Jima, and was awarded several decorations.
Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed as a sales representative by the J.W. Daley Company. Mr. Kelly was previously employed as the vice president of regional sales for the McKesson & Robbins Company.
Mr. Kelly resided in Reading for 25 years until moving to Tewksbury in 1993.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Church of Tewksbury and previously attended Sts. Agnes and Athanasius Churches in Reading.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mary Jane Kelly Gallant and her husband Steven of Andover; three sons, Daniel J. and his wife Carolyn of Poway, CA, Joseph P. and his wife Sharon of Dove Canyon, CA and Littleton Police Chief, John M. Kelly of Ayer, MA; one sister, Mary R. Benson of Mt. Prospect, IL; one brother, William T. Kelly of Chicago, IL. He was the much loved “Poppy” of twelve grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kelly was the brother of the late Catherine Rubini, Simon J., Maurice C., John M., and Jeremiah L. Kelly.
Calling hours Thursday, March 22nd, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Friday, March 23rd, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading. At the request of the family kindly OMIT FLOWERS.
