WORCESTER- John F. Nuzzolilo, age 69, passed away surrounded by his loving wife and children on Saturday March 17 in Bethesda Memorial Hospital. A resident of Boynton Beach, Florida, since January 2006, he resided in Bonita Springs, FL, for the previous 4 years. Prior to that he had been a lifelong resident of Worcester, Mass.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet A. (DiReda) Nuzzolilo; his son John F. Nuzzolilo, Jr. of Worcester; two daughters, Christine M. Rovezzi and Dorry A. Nuzzolilo Lemay, both of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Michael J. Lemay, Nicholas J. Nuzzolilo, Carla F. Rovezzi, Christina M. Lemay, Anthony M. Rovezzi, Vincent J. Rovezzi, Jennifer H. Lemay and Joanna L. Gallagher; four nephews and nieces. His brother Daniel Tierney Nuzzolilo of Worcester died in 2000. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Victor F. and Kathleen (Tierney) Nuzzolilo. A graduate of the Worcester Public Schools, "Jack Nuzzy," as he was known by many, served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958 as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He was a Principal Tax Examiner for the Department of Revenue in Worcester for 25 years, retiring in 2002.
Excelling in Billiards as a young man, he developed a steady hand, which helped him become an accomplished golfer with a scratch handicap. He competed in many Statewide tournaments including the Mass Amateur, and was known throughout Massachusetts for his golf game. He was a member of West Palm Beach Municipal Country Club, Oak Ridge Country Club, Spanish Weld Country Club, Wachusett Country Club and Indian Meadows where he was club champion. Jack won many tournaments over the course of his life, including: The Boston Globe Tournament of Champions, Rucki’s Goodyear Tiempo, the Wachusett Four Ball and was Co-Teenage Golf Medalist in 1952. He will be remembered by his family and friends as happy, witty, funny and forever the jokester Jack also had a heart as big as a house and possessed an undying love for his wife, Janet his children, “Jackie”, “Tini” and Dorry and all of his grandchildren.
His funeral will be Thursday March 22 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Webster Street. Calling hours will be held Wednesday March 21 from 5-9 p.m. in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or donations in Jack’s name may be made to a charity.
