Kathryn L. Tyler, 86

Dateline: Norton, MA

Kathryn L. (Achilles) Tyler, 86, of Norton went home to be with the lord on Sunday March 18, 2007. She passed away peacefully at the Life Care Center in West Bridgewater, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late L. Verne Tyler who died on June 15, 1968.
Born in Dunkin Quebec, Canada on May 15, 1920 she was a dear daughter of the late Henry H. and Letitia (O’Reilly) Achilles.
She left Canada in 1924 to make her new home in America, first settling in Newport, Vermont. Kathryn was educated in Vermont and was a 1939 graduate of Windsor High School. She also attended the Montpellier Seminary for 1 year.
In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Tyler had been employed as a Proof Reader at Winthrop Atkins in Middleboro for 8 years before retiring in 1982.
Church was a very important part of Kathryn’s life. She was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Norton. She was a former Sunday school teacher at both the Baptist and Assembly of God churches where she had formerly worshiped before moving to Norton. She also actively volunteered at the church soup kitchens.
She enjoyed gardening, reading her bible and family gatherings. She had made her home in Norton for the past 14 years and was a former longtime resident of Middleboro and other south shore communities.
She is survived by her devoted children: Laraine R. Champion, Verne Tyler and his wife Lynda, John C. Tyler and Robert E. Tyler and his wife Lucille all of Norton. She was the sister of twins Abbie Ricketts of Missouri and Addie Hall of Virginia and the late Louis Achilles and Henry Achilles. Also surviving are her loving 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday March 24th at 3:00 P.M. at the New Testament Baptist Church, 1 New Taunton Ave. (Route 140) Norton. Private burial will be held at a later date in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
Following the memorial services all are welcome to join with Kathryn’s family and partake in refreshments and reflect about fond memories of her in Fellowship Hall at the church.
