Thelma A. Van Nostrand, 87, of Sandown, NH died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the Fox Den Retirement Community. She was born in Norfolk, VA on December 6, 1919, a daughter of the late Rasmus Martin (Isaksen) Anderson and Sally Ann (Wayne) Anderson. She was raised in Stewart Manor, Long Island, NY and graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park L.I. She furthered her education at the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. Thelma was employed as a secretary in the business district of Manhattan for more than eight years. She married Ralph J. Van Nostrand in 1948 and resided on Long Island for many years, first in Plainview and later in Huntington. Following the death of her husband in 1983, she moved to Mount Pleasant, SC and in 1993 moved to Derry, NH to be near her son and his family. She was a former member of St. John Episcopal Church in Huntington, NY and was an active member of the Walt Whitman High School Booster Club in Huntington Station, NY.
IN HER LIFE: She is survived by her son, Ralph Van Nostrand and his wife Sue Ellen of Derry; three grandchildren, Michael Van Nostrand and Katherine Van Nostrand, both of Derry and Kayla Montgomery of Mount Pleasant, SC; two nieces, Jeanne Dinsmore of Piney Point MD and Jill Allard of San Diego, CA; and also survived by several grand nieces and grand nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Candace Ann Montgomery in 1993.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 3 PM in the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 1 Hood St., Derry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association of NH, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110.
