Obituary

John M. Keegan, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Tuesday March 13, 2007 at Marian Manor Nursing Home in South Boston following a lengthy illness. He was 83 years old.

John was born in Boston on July 28, 1923. He grew in Charlestown, where he attended St. Mary's Parochial School, graduated from Charlestown High School in 1942 and also attended Boston College and recieved his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics upon his graduation in 1955. He enlisted into the United States Army on March 4, 1943. He served during World War 2 and was wounded in action recieving the Purple Heart. He was discharged on November 25, 1945 with the rank of Private. John began working for the United States Postal Service as a clerk following high school graduation and resumed his employment as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service following his discharge from the army. He was past president of the Special Delivery Unit of the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus.

John is the beloved son of the late Michael and Dora T. (O'Leary) Keegan. He is the devoted brother of Eugene P. Keegan and Nancy Russell both of Charlestown and the late Mary Connor. He is the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Tuesday March 20, 2007 in the Marian Manor Chapel 130 Dorchester St. South Boston (please use Old Harbor St. entrance of nursing home). Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
