DARTMOUTH -- Florence May (Lucas) Tavares, age 85 years, of New Bedford, died Monday March 12, 2007, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the wife of the late Alfred Tavares.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Manuel Lucas and the late Ethel L.(Bucklin) St. Laurent and stepdaughter of the late Joseph St. Laurent, she was a graduate of New Bedford High School and a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church.
She retired from Continental Screw Company where she was employed for forty years, she then became a volunteer at the New Bedford Public Library and worked at precinct voting polls. She loved music, dancing, aerobics and dining out and was active at the Senior Center in Dartmouth.
She is survived by her brother Lester Lucas of New Bedford, and cousins Beverly Thompson, Frederick Buckley and Elizabeth Bentley all of New Bedford.
Her funeral will take place in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at 1 P.M. with visitation from 12-1 prior to her service. Burial is in Rural Cemetery.
