Obituary

Jacob Nechtem of Marblehead and formerly of Chelsea died on March 12, 2007. He was 98 years old.

Jacob lived in Chelsea all his life and attended the Chelsea schools. Upon graduating from Chelsea High School, Jacob went on to continue his education at Northeastern University. Jacob served his country in World War Two in the Army Air Corp. and became a First Lieutenant. He was stationed in the Philippines. He was a retired Social Worker for the City of Chelsea and was active in the local community as a member of Temple Emmanuel, the Chelsea Elks and Revere Elks, and also was a member of the Jewish War Veterans.

Jacob was the devoted husband of Evelyn (Freid) for 61 years. He was a very loving father of Ann Nechtem of Marblehead and Charles Nechtem of Florida and New Jersey. He was the cherished grandfather of Susan Swerdlick of Brookline and William Swerdlick of Marblehead. He was also the beloved brother of Saul Nechtem of Chelsea and the late Bessie Bidderman. Private graveside services were held on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Temple Emmanuel Cemetery in Danvers. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Ann Nechtem of Marblehead, MA on Wednesday, March 14th and Thursday, March 15th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. In lieu of flower donations, a memorial contribution may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
