Obituary

WORCESTER- Beverly V. (Sottak) Johnson, 82, of Grandview Avenue died Saturday, March 10th in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. Her husband, A. Everett Johnson died in 1971. She leaves a son, Paul E. Johnson and his wife Linda of Naples, FL; 2 daughters, Carol L. Johnson of Cherry Valley and Barbara E. Keller and her husband Anthony of Holden; a sister Barbara Backstrom of Worcester and her children, James Backstrom of Cherry Valley, Peter Backstrom and Diane Capen, both of Worcester; a brother, Donald Sottak and his wife Betty of Worcester; a sister-in-law Barbara Sottak of San Diego, CA; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, Edward MacDonald and his wife Cheryl and their daughter Samantha of Leicester, Scott MacDonald and his wife Lynn and their daughters Shayna and Lexie of Cherry Valley, Christina Sexton of Holden and Amherst, Dominic Shippole, Jr. of Worcester, Timothy Reed and his daughter Karli of Shrewsbury, Melissa Jordan and her husband Kirk and their daughters KayleeRose and Khloe of Naples, FL and Michael Reed and his wife Summer and their sons Logan and Jackson of Brewster; many loving cousins, nephews, nieces and close friends including Al, Ellen, Marie, Rita, Shirley, Barbara, June and all her good neighbors from Grandview Avenue. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Sherman Sottak of Holden, Julius Sottak of Worcester and Paul Sottak of Anaheim, CA and a sister, Katherine Lever of Leicester.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Palmer and raised in Cherry Valley, the daughter of Paul and Viola (Niles) Sottak. She was a 1942 graduate of Leicester High and later graduated from Becker Junior College. Mrs. Johnson worked as a buyer for National Standard Wire Company of Worcester for 20 years and was a bookkeeper for the Worcester Public Library. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Mrs. Johnson was an avid bowler. Bev enjoyed playing cards with the girls. She loved family gatherings. Bev was a devoted and loving Mom, Grammie and Great Grammie. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

The funeral is Thursday, March 15th with a service at 10:00 AM in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1048 Main Street. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, March 14th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1048 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603. The family would like to thank the renal/dialysis department and the critical care team at St. Vincent Hospital for their care and compassion. They say it’s their job, we say it’s a calling.
