Obituary

Kimball D. Nash, of Needham died on March 7, 2007 at his home. He was 80.
He was born in Providence, RI, son of the late Henry & Miriam D. Nash. Kimball became deaf at the age of 2 due to illness. He graduated from Rhode Island School for the Deaf and Lockwood High School. He attended Gallaudet University in Washington DC, and then studied textile chemistry at the Rhode Island School of Design. He was employed at the US Army Laboratory in Natick, The Protestant Guild for the Blind and retired as a senior offsetman from Honeywell-Bull.
Kimball was very much involved as a leader in the deaf community and known for his advocacy work and outreach programs. He had been the Executive Director of the Speech and Hearing Foundation for 25 years and a teacher of sign language for many years in Adult Education Programs. He received numerous awards throughout his life for his tireless dedication and service on behalf of the deaf community. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church for the Deaf for the past 35 years.
He leaves his wife Barbara Mathers-Nash of Needham. He is survived by two sons Andrew Nash of N. Palm Beach FL, and Philip Nash and his wife Amanda of Chelmsford, and two grandsons Ethan and Evan. He is also survived by a stepdaughter Rita Mathers of Arlington, a stepson Russell Mathers of Arlington and a step grandson Ryan. He was the brother of Louise Burvill of Arlington and leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service for family only will be held on Sat March 10. A memorial service to remember and celebrate the life of Kimball Nash will be held on Sun April 15 at 2:00 PM at the New England Home for the Deaf, 154 Water St. Danvers. Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service.
